FAQ

What is the difference between physiotherapy and osteopathy?

Physiotherapy uses manipulation of joints, muscles, and other soft tissues in conjunction with strengthening, stretching, mobility, and postural education to treat musculoskeletal injuries.

Osteopathy is a (more) holistic approach that in addition to the musculoskeletal system, also incorporates other concepts such as the cranio-sacral system, facias, and visceral mobility to promote the body’s own capacity to heal.

How do I know which approach is right for me?

If you are unsure about which approach would be most beneficial, the therapist will be able to assist in making the decision based on the reason for consultation, the subjective history, and the physical findings. Sessions often involve elements of both specialties to maximize results.

How long does a session last?

The initial evaluation lasts 60 minutes, which may include a 15 minute phone consult. Follow-up appointments are 45 minutes in length.

Will I get treated in my first session?

Absolutely. The evaluation will begin with subjective intake questions, followed by a physical evaluation. Based on the findings, a thorough treatment session will be included in the first session.

How many sessions will I need?

It is difficult to predict the exact number of sessions required to achieve your goals, however following the initial evaluation, the therapist will be able to offer more specific recommendations.

Are services covered by private insurance?

Private insurance companies often coverage for physiotherapy and/or osteopathy, however it is important to check with your provider about specifications for reimbursement.

What should I bring to my session?

Please bring comfortable clothing such as shorts, tights, tank tops or t shirts (no jeans or belts please!). If you are coming for a running related injury or a run assessment, please bring your current running shoes. If you have any imaging results (X-ray, MRI, etc.) these are also important.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my session?

We understand that life happens! You may cancel or reschedule your appointment without penalty up to 24h in advance. Late cancellation will result in a $40.00 charge.

I do not have a referral from a doctor. Can I still be seen?

You do not need to have a doctor's referral to consult a physiotherapist or osteopath. Please check your private insurance provider to see if they have specific requirements.
